Sacred Valley of the Incas: 1 Day
Our staff will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at around 8:45am to start our bus tour of the Sacred Valley (Valle Sacrado) of the Incas. There we will visit a wonderul selection of archeological sites and attractions.
After a 30 minute ride in our comfortable bus, we will start the tour at a traditional Peruvian market, in Qorao. Here you will appreciate the beautiful work of local artisans, working with fabric, metals, wood and more. There will be time to purchase souvenirs and, if you like, llamas to take pictures with.
After stopping off at a beautiful lookout (mirador) onto the Sacred Valley, where we can take great shots of the Andes Mountains and the Valley itself, we will head to the traditional town of Pisac (also spelt Pisaq). There, we’ll visit the market and learn a bit more about the lifestyle of the local people. We will visit a traditional oven where we can have some delicious typical pizzas and breads. After that, we will visit the archaeological complex and see the agricultural terraces, Inca cemeteries and royal Inca buildings. Our buffet lunch will be in a restaurant in the town of Urubamba.
In the afternoon, we will head to Ollantaytambo which was built to guard the entrance to this part of the Sacred Valley and to protect the Incas themselves from invaders. We will walk the streets and see the archaeological complex of this little town to get a clear idea of what this military, religious, and cultural center was really like during the period of the Inca Empire.
On the way back to Cusco we will visit the picturesque village of Chinchero where we’ll tour the remains of the royal estate of Tupac Inca Yupanqui, who in the late 15th century extended the Inca empire north along the Andes into modern day Ecuador. Also in Chinchero is a colonial temple built on top of the Inca estate. You can see the well-preserved Inca walls at the main plaza.
Upon the conclusion of the guided tour, we return to Cusco on our bus. The tour lasts about nine hours and ends at Regocijo Square (less than a block from the main square) at around 6:30 pm. We will transfer you to your hotel.
